Revd. Chloe Willson-Thomas article from September that I have been asked to post.
September is a time of new beginnings. With the summer holidays over we come into a new season and period of change before the winter sets in. One of the most famous passages in the Bible is Jesus’ great Sermon on the Mount. It is full of wise and helpful teaching on how we can change and lead more meaningful lives. He lists a short series of ways in which we can enjoy life to the full—and basically ‘be happy’. These are called the “Beatitudes.” In short, they ask that we hunger and thirst for what is right and just in our world, and that in humility and gentleness we should try and extend tolerance and forgiveness to all around us. In a world which is becoming increasingly unpredictable in many ways, Jesus’ words are as relevant now as they were then.
Your beautiful and historic parish church at the centre of Holcot is a place where we constantly seek to live and breathe the values that Jesus taught, in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It is a gem of a building which has been there for centuries, and yet, as a community, we aim to constantly grow and adapt to the needs of those around us.
You are very welcome in amongst us, whether at one of our normal communion services, or our more informal All-Age services. Or you may like to come to our coffee morning for a chat on the first and third Wednesday of every month. Whatever your needs and interests, we look forward to meeting you.
