Holcot Fete : the roundup!

img 0022

In Holcot we are blessed with a very fine gem of a church. Packed with character and a long history, it is open to all to worship, to visit or just have some moments of peace.. Every penny of the £406 per week upkeep costs has to be raised at a local level by local people. Thankyou for your support in the past and last Sunday.

Long may it continue….

The day of the Village Fete, dog show and art exhibition ….. June 2019

The sun came out,

The 25 straw bales and miles of bunting around

A dog show there  – that’s new – with bales on the ground.

We opened the gates to a crowd of Crufts-worthy dogs

Dragging their families in on their leads.

The dachshunds, the spaniels, the mutts

The jack russells, the pointers and the viszlas.

The teas, “more tea vicar!”

The cakes, the lollies and a singing choir to view

The beer, the beer, the barrels ran dry

And prosecco corks popped as dogs trooped by.

The raffle, the coconut shy, crazy golf and tombola

There was some much to see and do!

An art exhibition, an oasis of calm

Beautiful paintings together with the church’s charm

Thank you for joining us here

So we can enjoy our church together for another year!

We raised £2200 overall

On a brilliant June day in our lovely village hall.

Church : The wine game

A message from Lesley Pomeroy from the Church.

Would you like to win a bottle of Crozes-Hermitage, Doaine de Thalabert 2007 worth £35?

For the next five months until November the Church Fundraising Committee is running a lucky squares game with a bottle of the above as the monthly prize. The squares are £2 each and can be bought from  Lesley Pomeroy 781246 or mrspom.holcot@gmail.com

You can buy one per month or all five months for £10

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Church : Register of gravestones

A family history page has been added to the church website.

I includes a link to an index of all those known to be recorded on gravestones in the churchyard. In due course, the intention is to include images of all the gravestones but Melvyn wanted to give those who tend gravestones the opportunity to request that photos are not included.
