NCC are consulting on their budget until 30 January. Read their email and find the link to take part here.
Here is an excerpt from their email:
This is our biggest budget challenge yet. We have already made savings of £374 million since 2010, and still need to take out another £34.3 million this year to meet the soaring demand for services despite ongoing reductions in government funding.
Cllr Robin Brown, county council cabinet member for finance, said:
“We have reviewed the way we work to ensure we are as efficient as possible and deliver the best possible value for money, and after this year it is very difficult to identify further savings without impacting significantly on frontline, statutory services.
“We’re currently anticipating that we’ll receive £22.49m in Revenue Support Grant, our main source of funding from the Government. This is 36% less than the £35.5m we received last year.
“Unless the Government takes a serious look at its funding of local public services, we will struggle to even deliver statutory services by as soon as 2019/20.”
In view of local burglaries, the Parish Council are reminding parishioners to ensure the security of their homes and to keep doors locked.
The “Friends of Holcot” are a group of volunteers who undertake projects around the parish. Some projects are small, such as tidying up the paths and alleyways or cleaning the road signs, others are larger such as bringing the washbrook back to life, clearing the churchyard extension, or work on the playing field.
The group are friendly bunch and meet for an hour or two on Friday at 10am twice a month when weather allows – normally first and third Fridays.
The Friends create their work list from parishioners and the Parish Council. They are organised by Roger Gunnett (781686, firstname.lastname@example.org).
Contact Roger if you would like to get involved – no skills or specific commitment is required. Additionally, if you have any ideas of things that would benefit from the Friends activity, please contact Roger.
As a parish we are very grateful for everything that the Friends do to keep everything in a good state – thanks!
See the Friends of Holcot webpage.
On the first and third Wednesday of each month the Church organises a coffee and cake event at 11am in the Church Room. Coffee, cake and a natter!
There is also a short service of morning prayer at 10:30am, to which everyone is welcome.
Dave Cooke is searching for materials for a new art work.
If you have any horse brasses that you are able to donate, please contact Dave (781130, Bareen Cottage in Back Lane).
