A heartfelt plea from the Holcot Village ‘librarian’

Sadly, our village phonebox ‘library’ on Main Street is not The Tardis. Once it’s full, it’s full! There is no colourful character lurking in the bushes ready to jump out and use special wizardry to double its size, sort through the books, and tidy the shelves.

More importantly, the phonebox is NOT a library. It’s a book exchange. Which only works if, for every book donated, one is taken away. In that way, the status quo remains intact. And manageable.

So if you arrive with a carrier bag full of books, CDs, DVDs and the like – and see the shelves already full to overflowing PLEASE don’t leave what you’ve just brought! It makes the very limited space even more crowded, harder to manage and less enjoyable for everyone to use.

Your understanding and cooperation on this will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

So what CAN I do with my unwanted books?
1. West Northamptonshire Council offers a FREE collection service for unwanted booksclick here for details.
2. Good-quality books are often welcomed by charity book shops and care centres.
3. If neither of those works for you, an easier – although rather more brutal – option, is to just throw them away (hardback or softback books can be put into your recycling bin).
