Dads, eh – we’re all silly old duffers at times. But, hey, you gotta love us!
* Convention has the apostrophe before the ‘s’. But “pish and thrice pish” – I fly in the face of convention!

In the heart of beautiful Northamptonshire
TIME.
It takes just four minutes after a human heart has stopped before internal organs begin to stop working. A frightening prospect.
Most of us would be out of our depth. A mixture of panic and ‘little knowledge’ would prevail. Valuable time would be lost. And a well-meaning but untrained physical response might cause more harm than good.
Enter the St John Ambulance CPR and defibrillator team.
On Thursday 18 June, in the Village Hall, nine parishioners were educated and entertained by Chris and Cayti from Kettering St John Ambulance. They benefitted from 90 minutes of CPR demonstration and defibrillator use – with hands-on practice on the very compliant Annie (a plastic ‘body’).

While none of us would now claim to be expert, we have at least a foundation of knowledge that would, hopefully, enable a quick and appropriate response in an emergency.
A very worthwhile session and I urge you all to look out for the next training opportunity and come and join us! You can find out more about how to do CPR here.

The poster says it all! And if it’s half as much fun as it looks, it’ll be an afternoon to remember! (Don’t forget there’s a children’s fancy dress competition too – starting at 3.00pm. So don’t be late!)

More progress was made around the parish by a small team of volunteers on Friday 12 June. This included:
– Cutting back shrubbery and over-long verge growth around two ‘sharp-turn’ warning chevrons on Sywell Road. Both signs are now clearly visible, as are their lines of sight. (No nesting birds or wildlife affected by this action.)
– Digging out – and disposing of – copious amounts of earth and debris from drains and rain-water grills on Main Street (think The Great Escape tunnellers…)
– Initial work around the bench on Brixworth Road (heading towards the reservoir). This is a work-in-progress which will be continued in a fortnight.

Added to this, during previous weeks, teams of the FoH have:
– Cleaned and renovated three wooden benches
– Swept and tidied up along the jitty and the bottom end of Main Street around The White Swan
– Tidied up the Washbrook and around the lime tree at the bottom of Poplars Lane
– Cut away ivy and other weeds around the Green
– Mended the basketball hoop net and cleaned the playing area (another work-in-progress).
A big shout-out to all the volunteers who give so willingly of their time!
