A shout-out to Holcot’s ‘youngsters’

You may not realise that:
– The ages of the four members of the Parish Council range from 70 to 77
– All the members of the Village Hall Committee are over 70
– Most of the regular Village Hall helpers are in their 70s and 80s
– Seven of The Friends of Holcot are in their 70s; another three are over 80
– Almost all the ladies in the Gardening Group are in their 70s
– The volunteer who regularly climbs a stone spiral staircase and up an almost vertical ladder to maintain the village church clock is 82.

Crazy isn’t it…
No village – even one as small as Holcot – should have to rely on its oldest residents to manage these vital activities. It’s neither fair nor sustainable to expect them to do so.

We need the next generation – people in their 40s, 50s and 60s – to stand up and be counted. To get involved, take the reins and join the party. To bring with them new ideas, new enthusiasm, new energy, and new skills.

Our village needs your involvement  
Because, the simple truth is: without your input these activities will soon cease to exist. So please, embrace the challenge and have an impact on the future of your village. Click on this link for more information about joining the Parish Council.

An evening of music, fun and shakin’ your booty!*

You are all cordially invited to a spectacular night in the Village Hall on Thursday evening 19 November. Doors open at 7.00pm and the magic starts at 7.30pm.

In an IW-organised fund-raising event, and for one night only, the wonderful Peter Marchant will entertain us with his special brand of glam-inspired rock ‘n’ roll music.

A mere child at 35, Peter was born and raised in Holcot, and is a veteran of the Edinburgh Fringe and some of Europe’s biggest festivals including The Isle of Wight and T in the Park. He has also featured on BBC Radio 1 and soundtracked many hit TV shows. His singing videos on YouTube have been streamed over three million times. Not too shabby, eh…

A vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Peter’s repertoire covers The Beatles, Queen, David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, The Killers, Bryan Adams, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Smiths and many more.

To maximise the fund raising, Peter has very kindly agreed to waive his usual fee, and money raised will go to two great causes:
– The Brain Tumour Charity (in memory of Peter’s brother), and
– The Holcot Parish Church fabric fund.

Starry, starry night…

A huge ‘thank you’ to Paul Butler and Phil Scordellis for supplying and installing four dedicated spot lights in the Holcot Village Hall. The glitter ball can now be used and enjoyed to its full effect by anyone who hires the hall.
